Create or Edit an Ordinance

This guide walks through the basic steps required to publish or edit an ordinance in WordPress using GovernDocs.

Step 1: Create an ordinance

Go to GovernDocs > Ordinances in the WordPress admin menu and then click Add New Ordinance.

The ordinance editor allows you to add the ordinance title, description, ordinance details, supporting document, and related meetings.

Step 2: Add the ordinance details

Fill in the main ordinance fields such as ordinance number, status, date introduced, date adopted, and effective date.

You can also add a short description to explain the purpose or subject of the ordinance on the front end.

Step 3: Upload the ordinance document

Use the Document section to upload the ordinance file and add any relevant document notes.

The uploaded document can then be made available to visitors from the public ordinance page.

Step 4: Link related meetings

Use the Related Meetings section to select any meetings where the ordinance was considered, discussed, or adopted.

This allows visitors to move between the ordinance and the relevant meeting records.

Step 5: Publish the ordinance

Click Publish to save the ordinance. The record can then be displayed anywhere on your site using the shortcode shown in the ordinance editor sidebar.

Step 6: Display the ordinance

Copy the shortcode and paste it into a page, post, or widget area that accepts shortcodes.
